oh, it's only 10 and already it's been suuuuch a long day...

i don't know why, but every year as soon as it gets cold, my furnace explodes and we wake up in an igloo. that's what happened today - rudely awakened at 8:30, after going to bed at 5, by a panicked brother who had almost turned into an ice cube overnight...luckily i was nice and warm, albeit unable to open my eyes. i called the nice people at 'city gas' who are on their way, but until they get here i'm under my covers drinking coffee, wearing 2 pr. socks, 2 sweatshirts, 2 t-shirts, 2 pairs of pants, a hoody and a hat which apparently makes me look like a "smurf". whatever.

i've been working a lot on a seminar i have to lead next week on memory and home videos...i'll write a bit more about this later, but i've been exploring the connections between home vids and pornography in terms of the rise and marketing of the home video camera, which i understand was marketed solely as a "family closeness" device but in fact served to drastically enliven the porn industry. a fact which i enjoy because now when i'm waiting in line to get my pictures developed all the cheesy pictures/instructions on how to create "perfect" memories start to ooze irony and i wonder what the connection is between memories and objectification? or who i'm performing for when i look into a camera lens? and if there is a more subversive connotation to the "kodak moment", would that be such a bad thing?

sorry, i know it's a bit early in the morning for this kind of thing...i guess that's what low body temperature and too little sleep do to a potentially more censored train of thought. like i said, it's been a long day.
